Rana's Review

The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo is very similar book to the Cinderella story. There's only a few differences. This book is about a girl named Rhodopis who was brought from Greece to Egypt to be a slave. She was put along the Nile river where it meets the blue sea (Mediterranean sea). Rhodopis was a really good dancer and one day her master sees her dancing and as a gift gives her gold slippers. One of my favorite part of the book is when the hawk (God Horus) takes the slipper from Rhodopis and brought it to the pharaoh. I recommend this book to any one who likes fairy tales with happy endings. -Rana

Fall in Love with Literature

The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo Rhodopis is a girl from Greece, stolen by pirates, taken far away from her home to Egypt, and sold as a slave. Three leader peasants are mean to her and jealous of ruby red slippers her master gave to her as a gift. Horus, as a hawk, came and took her glass slipper which was specially made for her and dropped it on the pharaoh Amasis. Will she ever get it back? My favorite part of the book was when the Pharaoh searched along the Nile river to find his wife. He would not stop until he found the owner of the shoe. I made a connection to Disney's animated film Cinderella when the prince searched his kingdom to find the owner of the slipper. I would recommend this story to anyone who liked Disney's Cinderella. If you liked Disney's version, you will love Egypt's! -Autumn

Caitlin's Corner

The Egyptian Cinderella was written by Shirley Climo and Illustrated by Ruth Heller. This book is about a girl named Rhodopis who was taken away from her home in Greece by pirates. Rhodopis was like no other girl in Egypt, she was a lonely girl, with no friends or family, all she had were three mean peasant girls who would make fun of her because she had blonde hair and green eyes, different from everyone else. Sometimes Rhodopis would dance for the animals and the master saw her once and gave her custom made rose red slippers. To make everything worse the hawk (the god of Horus) stole one of the slippers and flew away with it. My favorite part of the book is when the master, sees her value and gives her the rose red slippers. If you like fairy-tale stories with a little Egyptian twist you will love this book! -Caitlin

Judgement Day with Justin

She is a slave sold in Egypt to a old man and three servant girls that are very mean, this slave girls name is Rhodopis and will she survive in these hard times? Read the book to find out. Alyssa's Book Review

The Egyptian Cinderella is a great book written by Shirley Climo and illustrated by Ruth Heller. In this book, a sweet girl, named Rhodopis, is stuck in a terrible situation! When she was little, she was taken away from her home in Greece and forced to become a slave. She doesn't have any parents and three peasant girls are very mean to Rhodopis. To make matters worse, a hawk takes one of Rhodopis' beautiful, custom made slippers. The part of the story that I liked the most was when Rhodopis' master gave her a pair of dazzling, custom made slippers as a reward for being an amazing dancer. Anybody who enjoys an uplifting, well written fairy tale will love this story! -Alyssa

When Rhodopis was younger she was stolen from Greece by pirates and sold as a slave in Egypt. Rhodopis would always dance,so, her master got her a pair of red slippers for her feet. But when the other slaves announced they're going to see the Pharaoh and Rhodopis cant come, she was upset. Then a Hawk comes and steals the red slippers and brings it to the Pharaoh. He says "whoever owns this slipper will be my queen". My favorite part is when the pharaoh goes from kingdom to kingdom to search for his queen. Abby's Reviews on Books

Shirley Climo writes an amazing book called the Egyptian Cinderella, illustrated by Ruth Heller. In this case the girl's name in the story is not Cinderella it is Rhodophis. However Rhodophis is not Egyptian she is Greek, which makes her stand out, a lot. This book is about Rhodophis being a slave in the land of Egypt. Rhodophis can't go to the pharaohs court he is having. Her master's daughters are going without her. Rhodophis gets a beautiful pair of slippers. When she was doing her chores a falcon swipes one of her slippers and took it away. The shoe somehow got to the pharaoh and he said "Whoever owns this slipper shall be my queen." My favorite part is when the hawk takes one of her slippers and brings it to the pharaoh. I would recommend this book who want's to read a quick interesting story and someone who likes fairy tales. -Abby

But then the hawk (Horus) took the rose red slippers. The future for Rhodopis looks terrible. How will the story end? Too Much Happily Ever After

The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo and illustrated by Ruth Heller is an interesting book, but too predictable. The book starts off with a girl named Rhodopis who was Greek. She was kidnapped by pirates as a child and sold as a slave in Egypt. She was a very good dancer and when her master saw her dancing he ordered her a pair of custom-fit rosy gold slippers, but when a slipper gets stolen by a hawk(Horus, protector of the Pharaohs) and lands in the lap of the Pharaoh Amasis, Amasis promises to marry whoever owns the slipper. You can kind of predict what happens after that. There are many connections I have with this book, but the most memorable connection I have is that Rhodopis likes animals and my cousin likes animals. Honestly, this is what I think. If you liked the Disney version of Cinderella you will like this book, but if you are tired of the two-year-old happily ever after garbage don't read this book. -Luke

In Egyptian Cinderella, Cinderellas name is Rhodophis. Rhodophis has three evil owners, that are always asking her to do everything. While Rhodophis is in the garden a hawk (the sign of Horus) swoops by and picks up one slipper, the hawk then goes and drops the slipper on the pharaoh, Amasis lap. Judging Books By More Than Their Cover With Rowan

The book, "The Egyption Cinderella," is written by Shirley Climo. It is the original Cinderella story, except it takes place in Ancient Egypt. Instead of a maid, Rhodopis (the main character) is a household peasant. Rhodopis has rosy cheeks, blonde hair, and green hazel eyes like the color of the Nile River. One day, while dancing around outside, a hawk (Horus), takes her golden slipper. Horus takes the golden slipper to the pharaoh, and the pharaoh sets forth to find who lost the slipper and whose slipper it is. My favorite part of the story was when was when Horus. By Rowan

Read Between The Lines With Jason

The Egyptian Cinderella The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo is the original Cinderella story. It's about a girl named Rhodopis and her magical story. Rhodopis is a household peasant who lives with 3 other mean girls. Rhodopis is the only different one because she has blonde hair, green eyes and very rosy cheeks. One day, while Rhodopis is out alone a hawk comes and takes Rhodopis' slipper and gives it to the pharaoh. Next, the pharaoh says he'll marry whoever fits the slipper. My connection to the story is like the mean girls that live with Rhodopis are like my brothers, and I'm her (boy version). Even though they're not that mean. I give this book 3.5 stars (out of 5)! And you will love this story if you like any Disney tales or Egyptian stories! -Jason

Abigail's Creative Book Review

The Egyptian Cinderella is by Shirley Climo, its about a girl named Rhodopis who is different from all the other girls living in there masters house. Rhodopis is a slave and when she is done with her chores she dances, so her master gave her gold slippers, so know she is even more different. But one day a hawk (Hours) took her slipper far far away. This story is phenomenal, mostly of the ending but I'm not going to give it away, the story is also phenomenal because of the amazing pictures by Ruth Heller they tie the whole story together. I recommend this story for boys and girls of all ages because most boys and girls have seen the movie Cinderella and I think it would be good for them to read the original version. - Abigail
